The Knights of the Auto Order Proudly Present: The Auto Body Estimate: Vol. II, #119, June 2016

It's been a long time since we've sent out a newsletter. My excuse? I forgot the MailChimp password. But I hope to make up for that today by sharing some really good news. On Friday, August 5 the Auto Body Experience will play a CD release party at the Eagles Club #34 in Minneapolis!

"But wait," you say, "Didn't Yoho chicken out on the Minnesota winters and move to Colorado?" Well, yes I did, but it didn't keep us from completing a new CD, and making plans to return to Minnesota to play a CD release show on August, 5 AND a free outdoor show on Tuesday, August 2.

Still skeptical, you might ask; "Living that far away has got to make it tough to rehearse." Well, I must admit that some of my bandmates think that fewer rehearsals is one of the more significant benefits of my out-of-state move, but I assure you we will practice for these gigs.

At least once.

"Are there new songs on the CD, or is it one of those compilation-rehash sort of things?" Man, you are a tough audience. Every song is a never-before-recorded Auto Body Experience original. Some, like "Watch It Stay" and "Get Things Done," are tunes we've played live for years; others not so much, but it's all good, at least according to Dave Russ, who we paid to record us, and who would welcome some repeat business.

I expect to get the CDs back from the CD-making elves later this month, after which I plan to send you some photos of the final product to further convince you I'm not joshing.

Other than that, things are good. I've mentioned before that, just as I might curtail my enthusiastic praise for hopscotch when speaking with a legless man, I try not to talk about Colorado weather with my Minnesota friends. That said, it is pretty nice here; please come and visit. We don't have as many lakes, but marijuana is free and grows in giant trees lining every street. All police officers are required to smoke it while on duty and they get so happy that they just "high five" people, while performing funny dances, instead of giving out parking tickets. It's really a beautiful thing.

Okay, I made that last part up. (The part about the tickets.) Actually, pot isn't even sold in my town, but I'm told you can buy it in places like nearby Boulder (which is kind of the Austin of Colorado, and no, I don’t mean they have a Hormel plant). If you visit, you can check it out and tell me all about it. I don’t have time for stuff like that; I have to get the boys to soccer games and bike races and robotics competitions. And I have to try to get my band to rehearse over the phone.

At least once.

Anyway, I hope you can join us at one or both of our two shows the first week of August. On Tuesday, August 2 we'll play a free, all ages, outdoor show in Blaine from 7 to 8. Check out the details on our Facebook event page  and let us know you're coming so we can knit enough sweaters.

On Friday, August 5 we’re back in the Eagles Club ballroom to celebrate the release of a new CD. Let us know if this might work for you on a second Facebook event page  so we'll know how many commemorative tea cozies to crochet.

We've got some ideas for ways to make the CD release show extra special, but for now we're keeping them under wraps (possibly because additional passwords were forgotten). We will play two robust sets, starting around 8:00, with a generous break in between so we can all step outside, then race around town trying to find a place where Harry Singh is making chicken curry rotis. (Honestly we'll probably just drink a quick beer at the bar instead, but I would really like to know; I am a bit out of touch with all things Minnesota.) Becca told me they tore down the Metrodome after we left, but even I know when someone is pulling my leg.

Off to practice - I hope to see you soon,

Scott Yoho, Grand Pooh Bah, Knights of the Auto Order
